MAKERS MARKS
What makers marks mean

Booths & Colcloughs Ltd was made from two firms - Booths Ltd (founded 1891) and Colcloughs China Ltd (1937-1948) who was formerly known as H. J. Colclough Ltd, Vale Works, (1897-1937). Both were amalgamated in 1948.

Booths was a stoneware factory while Colclough and his predecessors had produced porcelain which has often been praised since 1897. In 1948 the business was taken over by a group of ceramic factories which did not produce porcelain - needless to say this porcelain is now quite rare.
